Principal's Welcome

I’m Steve Dinkel the proud principal of Jefferson High School! This is my 29th year of living in Jefferson and my 25th year of working with the School District of Jefferson. I truly feel honored and blessed to have this opportunity to lead one of the most exceptional high schools in the State of Wisconsin. I was a teacher for 21 years at JHS before leaving in 2009 for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to teach in the College of Education and help lead a national championship football program. In 2013, having missed secondary education tremendously, I had the great opportunity to return to Jefferson High School as the associate principal. As I transition to the principalship I’m looking forward to this school year as we get ready to build upon the great traditions JHS has established over the years.

Passion       •       Purpose       •        Pride

I would like to share some thoughts about the three words listed above and the significant impact they can have on a school district, community or an individual that strives to be the best at everything they do. As a school we have high expectations of our students and quite frankly, ourselves, our programs, and our schools.  This commitment and desire to pursue excellence and never be satisfied with the status quo is what inspires us to strive to be better and to do better for you and those that will come after you.

Passion: Our goal is to help our students discover what their passion is. High School is a time for students explore what they truly love. Work will fill such a large portion of our lives. We want students to take the time to discover their interests and develop the skills necessary to be successful in the 21stcentury. We want them to develop the grit and perseverance to meet any challenges they may experience.

Purpose: High School is a time of opportunity and relationships. We want students to take full advantage of the many academic challenges and enrichment activities available at JHS - from clubs to athletics. Our purpose is to deliver education from the heart.

Pride: Each day we hope to encourage students to develop a sense of pride in who they are, how they represent themselves and how they treat others around them in their daily activities. Whatever their passion or whatever their purpose, the way they treat others is an essential component to their own personal happiness.  Pride is an attitude that is fostered over time. Who you are as a person comes from a series of daily efforts. We want students to demonstrate Eagle Pride every day.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to Jefferson High School for the upcoming academic school year. As a school, we strive for continuous improvement. Through the cooperative efforts of students, parents, staff and community members, we can maintain the highest standards for our young people to learn and achieve. We have the greatest student body and faculty around!  I believe JHS is emerging in the 21st century as a leader in guiding students and empowering futures.

Our new state-of-the art high school opened its doors in 2012.  We are proud of our new academic wing; 1000-seat auditorium; large commons; new swimming pool; three gymnasiums; new greenhouse; updated woods, metals, agriculture, and automotive shops; business education tiered-seating labs; five computer labs; 14 computer labs on wheels; brand new science labs; three art rooms; two FACS classrooms; new tennis courts; and a newly renovated outdoor athletic complex.  WOW!  All of this is possible because of the tremendously hard-working and supportive members of our community. We believe “Strong Schools = Strong Community.”

The students that walk our halls each day are our #1 priority. Jefferson High School has a history of excellent academic, fine arts, and extracurricular accomplishments. We will do whatever is essential for our students to be successful and to make our school a better place for them. We embrace the exciting challenge of preparing our young adults academically, socially, and emotionally with the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century whether that be college or a career pathway.
