Academic Standards & Curriculum

Academic

The School District of Jefferson is committed to the development of challenging and engaging standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Our seven-year curriculum cycle (see link below) has been carefully tailored to assure regular review and updating of K-12 course offerings. Systematic staff development activities provide staff with a variety of opportunities for dialogue with colleagues, K-12 curriculum alignment, curriculum writing, technology training and professional growth.

In general, our goal is to provide students with engaging learning opportunities which enhance knowledge, skill development, and problem-solving skills relevant to the world in which they will work and live.

Curriculum Warehouse

The School District of Jefferson's curriculum is compiled into a warehouse website which provides you with access to course guides for each course offered to 4K through 12th grade students in our district. Within these guides, staff have identified the essential learning outcomes (aligned to Wisconsin State Standards) of the course/year, resources used during instruction, and unit pacing. We are constantly updating our curriculum to best meet student needs through curriculum review cycles and our Professional Learning Community process.  Therefore, you may find that some documents are under construction.

Academic Standards

What are academic standards?

The District’s academic standards identify what students should know and be able to do within a given content area or subject. Standards serve as goals and guideposts for both classroom instruction and student learning. The standards also help parents and students gain a better understanding of the District’s expectations for student learning. The District’s academic standards do not mandate the use of any specific standardized test or assessment.

What are the academic standards that will be in effect during this school year?

Wisconsin State Statute 120.12(13) requires that annually parents and guardians of students residing in the school district are noticed of the Board approved academic standards that will be utilized in during the school year.
