When your number is added in our student information system, you should receive the following text from 67587 requesting you to opt-in to receive important informational text messages from the School District of Jefferson:  

Jefferson School District alerts. Reply Y 2 confirm, HELP 4 info. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. http://schoolmessenger.com/txt  

Alternatively, you may text "Y" to 67587 from the mobile device you wish to receive texts on. If you opt-in prior to your number being added to our database, you will not be sent the opt-in invitation text above. 

• You should have received an opt-in confirmation message in response to your opt-in text.  
• If you want to receive texts on multiple devices, each device number must complete the opt-in process.  
• You may opt-in by texting 67587 from any number. However, if that number is not in our database it will never be sent a text alert from us.  Contact your child's school or the District Office to ensure that we have your number in the database. It may take 24 hours for a number to become active after being changed or added to the district’s system.
• Confirm that we have attempted to send a communication which includes an SMS text message to your mobile phone number.  

After you text one of the key words to the short code the system will ALWAYS respond back with one of three messages:  

1. Opt-in Response: You're registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help. Msg&data rates may apply. msg freq varies. http://schoolmessenger.com/txt    
2. Opt-out Response: You’re unsubscribed from SchoolMessenger. No more messages will be sent. Reply Y to resubscribe or Help for help. Msg & data rates may apply http://schoolmessenger.com/tm   
3. Help or Unknown Key Word Response: SchoolMessenger notification service: Reply Y to subscribe or STOP to cancel. Msg&data rates may apply. Msg freq varies. Visit http://schoolmessenger.com/txt for info   

Any other response, or no response, indicates you should contact your wireless device provider to have SMS messaging/premium content enabled (see the error message FAQ question below for more details).  

If you receive what appears to be an error message, similar to one of the following, it most likely means that short code text messaging is not enabled on your wireless plan:   

• Service access denied   
• Message failed   
• Shortcode may have expired or shortcode texting may be blocked on your account   
• Does not participate   

These replies DO NOT mean that you cannot receive messages from SchoolMessenger. Rather, they indicate that your mobile device does not have short code SMS texting enabled (this is sometimes disabled by default on company provided cell phones). To address this, contact your wireless provider.   

Note: Providers sometimes use various names for this type of texting service (e.g. short code, SMS, premium, etc.). If you simply ask about text messaging, your carrier may assume you are referring to person-to-person. Therefore, be sure to refer to “short code” text messages. Most TV programs that have a voting component use short code SMS messaging (for example, American Idol, Dancing with the Stars). In addition, many department or grocery stores use SMS to distribute coupons and deals. Using an example such as this can be helpful in clarifying the type of texting service you want to enable. 

Recipients not wishing to receive text messages to a particular number can simply do one of the following:  

• Don’t opt-in and don’t reply to the opt-in invitation message.  
• Text STOP to 67587 at any time.  
  • Note, this will opt you out of all SchoolMessenger text alerts, including those from other Districts.
• Opt-out online at http://schoolmessenger.com/txt
• Request that we add your number to our District's block list via phone at 920-675-1010 or email to Supt.Assist@sdoj.org.
